Lecture 1And if you say in your heart, my strength and my natural ability have produced this wealth, then you should remember that the Lord Yahweh your God is the one who gives you the ability to gain wealth, so that He can confirm His covenant.
I want to start by asking you a question. That question is,
Does God want us to be wealthy?
Yes He certainly does. He wants us to prosper in every way.
God’s Covenants
Poverty and lack is never a blessing, because God is a covenant God. He has always entered into covenants with men. And the covenant that we have with Him today as His children is one of the greatest covenants that God ever made with man.
A covenant is a very simple thing. It is when two people come together and commit themselves wholly to each other.
When two people entered into that kind of blood covenant relationship there was one term that applied to everyone. It was the fact that everything that the one person had belonged also to the other person.
That means if I entered into such a covenant, whatever I had belonged to my covenant partner. And whatever my covenant partner had belonged to me.
So when God entered into covenant with man, He actually got the raw end of the deal. He took everything that we had which was pretty much nothing. But He gave us everything that He had which was pretty much everything.
If you believe that God wants us to be poor, then you would have to believe that God Himself is poor. You would think,
“Poor little God, He needed us so bad that He had to go into covenant with us, so that He could try and get some blessing for Himself from us.”
Does this sound like the kind of God you know?
I don’t think so. He has so much wealth that the streets of Heaven are paved with gold. There is so much gold that they don’t know what to do with it.
There is no lack in the Kingdom of God and God owns the universe. He has no lack, so if you are His child He wants you to prosper.
No Self Effort Needed
But here is the part where we miss it. We all like to do things our way. The spirit of independence drives us to say,
“I’m going to work hard. I am going to put all my strength, my energy and my ability into this thing and I am going to make a lot of money.”
When you have finished you can stand up and boast to the world about your brilliant business plan, about your great skill and about how you went about making all of this money. But where does the Lord fit into it? He doesn’t fit anywhere.
That is why God says in the passage I shared at the beginning,
“Don’t go saying in your heart that your strength and your natural ability produced this wealth.”
Rather God says,
“I am going to give you the ability to gain wealth. I want you to be wealthy and to have abundance. If you will let me live through you, I will show you how to get your hands on the wealth of this world.”
Do you know why? Because the wealth of this world does not belong to Satan. Satan thinks that he got control of it because Adam handed it over to him.
But you see God is the Creator and He has the world in His hands. All that God needs is a man to reach out and take what He made for man in the first place.
Because of Calvary we have conquered Satan. We have overcome sin and all the things that have robbed us of our blessing, and now He wants us to be wealthy.
So how should you go about becoming wealthy now? Do you sit down and make the best business plan that you have ever heard of? Do you go out and find the best prospects and sell the best products?
Yes a lot of those things might be involved. But the first thing you should be doing is stopping Him and asking Him,
“Lord how do I go about gaining wealth?”
You see He is going to give you the ability. He is going to give you the wisdom, and He is going to tell you exactly how to do it. It makes it so much simpler doesn’t it?
God wants you to prosper. If you will do it His way, you cannot help but prosper.
