Section 01 – The Basics

Today is an important day for you. You are about to embark on a new journey that will take your prayer life to new heights.

It doesn't matter whether you are new to the world of prayer, or whether prayer has become a way of life for you. I believe that the Lord has something new for you. I hope that by the time you are finished with this book, your prayer life will be more exciting and rewarding than ever.

To begin, I want to go right back to the basics of prayer. You may think this is too elementary for you. However I am often surprised at how many people are not aware of some of these basic things. So I will start with this and then we will move on from there.

The first thing you need to remember when you come to the Lord to pray is simply this. Come just as you are.

The Lord loves you and accepts you, whether you are noisy or quiet, fat or thin. And the good thing is you don't have to try and change when you are with Him.

You can be yourself and He will still love you. You are a precious son or daughter to Him and He just wants to be with you and to spend time with you.

I am sure you have seen people who try and change for others depending on who they are with. It is called Performance Orientation, and my husband has taught on it in other places. If I see someone like that I think to myself,

"Why don't you just be yourself? You look stupid trying to be who you are not."

If you know the person well you can see it from a mile. But you don't have to be like that.

I think the best example of just being yourself is to look at a child. A child has no airs and graces and will usually accept you just the way you are. He will come and sit next to you and begin to talk to you and fellowship with you.

Well the Lord is ready and waiting to fellowship with you right now. He wants to develop a relationship with you and pour out His love to you.

Prayer Idea

When you come to pray today, why don't you just come into His presence and let Him pour this love out to you. You don't even need to pray anything. You can simply relax in His presence and imagine Him sitting with you and loving you.

You can do this whenever you need to feel His love or whenever you need a touch from Him. It will encourage you and lift you up and then you can go on again.
