They have a huge effect on our lives. I really do and what you are today is largely as a result of How you've responded to the things that you've heard During your life now Where do these words come from and how do they affect us? I want to look at a few possible areas of words That have done us good or bad, and I suppose the first words that we were fully aware of would have been from our parents Especially your mother now you'd be amazed how a parent's words Affect a child now. I had three daughters to start with before I had John and If you've had kids you know each of them has their own little funnies and idiosyncrasies or my third youngest daughter She just had this Habit of screaming for no reason oh Lord and If you know me, I'm very sensitive to noise I don't like loud noises After a while my natural response to her became when she screamed shut up No, you don't even realize that you're doing it You don't realize the effect it will have or if the child's even hearing you or responding to you But as my little daughter began to grow older Not yet speaking one day She spoke her first words Or I mean babies speak words they go And right in the middle of this I heard shut up.

It's what Sure enough shut up the first English word. She spoke was the word I kept speaking over shut up it was cute, but Hmm kind of hit me. I thought you know what? Am I having a good effect on this child am I just painting something negative is that what I'm teaching her to do You know people who have parrots sometimes have to hide them when the neighbors come those parrots should beat the things you say Be very careful what you say you see the words of your parents have a very strong effect on you now your mother's words Should be positive and should help you know who you are The mother usually helps a child to accept themselves but sometimes We get angry and we say negative words, and we speak things you stupid child.

I wish you were like other children Sometimes I wish I never had you You don't realize sometimes the words that we speak effects they can have on our children and then the father's words They don't affect the child so much, but as the child gets into adolescence Where it needs the affirmation and recognition of a father? your father's words over you can create a negative image in your mind and Change the way you see yourself going up now and becoming an adult Now when a father speaks positive words That child begins to develop self-confidence If it is a good picture about themselves feel good about themselves, and they can face the world with confidence But a father is always putting down the child saying you stupid I Wish you were a bit more clever. I wish you were more capable. I wish you were that you're not good enough These words hurt us They hurt us so deeply that it can scar us the rest of our lives and there we have our siblings don't we an issue less to grow up as an only child and There's some blessings to that and some things that are not so good But the blessing is you've got all the love and attention, but if you had brothers or sisters Chances are there was sibling rivalry Competition with one another Always happens when you put a group together especially amongst kids What kind of words that they speak to you? Did they put you down did they compete with you today say negative things about you Or do they say positive things when you think back on your childhood? Think of the words that you heard and how those words affected you Did your siblings make you part of the group where they consider you the outsider Yeah, were you the black sheep of the family as they say? You know the sheep or white you the black one.

You know you're just not acceptable. You don't fit in you're too different All of these things and the words and the actions that people carry out they leave a mark on us Which affects us sometimes? For the rest of our lives unless we learn to break out of it and then we go out into the world and we have early experiences at school and All there it's even worse than amongst your siblings because now you're really competing Somehow to be in with the in crowd You're wanting to be part of the group But perhaps you're the little outsider You sit on the outside while everybody else is playing together And you hear them talking about you all so and so oh Those words they can hurt They can leave a scar on us see yes words words are very powerful Words can hurt us very much As you get to the later higher school It's even worse because now you're going into the adolescent phase And you're very conscious of yourself, and you're wanting people to think about you positively you wanting people to say good things about you Oh, oh the way of the world is not positive is it it's not natural for people to build one another up It's natural for them to tear one another down because this world is under the control of the evil one And you know in Satan's kingdom They're fighting all the time And everything Satan's got it all together Let me tell you Satan has to rule Those that are under him with a rod of iron because they're competing with him They'd like to take his job if they could because they got the same spirit as him that's attitude Yeah, he wasn't he didn't want to be under God He wanted to be above the people that are under him. They're just like him.

He has to control them rigidly And the world the world follows that pattern The world is selfish the world wants to do its own thing the world wants to put you down And the scripture says that we should avoid the way of the world which is to do everything through strife and vainglory It says in the original King James and that means pulling people down and putting yourself up back in their place Well at least we can go to church can't we and there we can have some good experiences The preacher stands up and says you miserable rotten sinners you're going to hell Sort yourselves out You never attend church you don't pay tithes you don't do anything. Bleh bleh bleh bleh Not good enough come on. We've all been there Yeah Why you think at least the man of God or woman of God? Would speak uplifting positive words, and you know if they preach the word of God they would but a lot of time they don't And then you have other fellow believers We have the same attitude sometimes as the world judgmental attitudes You Know it's just amazing How many people have what they what they think is the discerning of spirits? Which is the ability to find faults and other people and tell everybody what's wrong with them? I tell you what if you want to find out what's wrong with somebody just ask everybody else Just watch what happens when one person leaves the group and see what the rest of them say about It's never positive let me tell you should be and And We trust God's gonna build a church for the future that will be different And I'm not saying all churches are like that, but unfortunately very often we have that experience And then you go out into the world for some social experiences to have a bit of fun And what's fun is go and play some sport and now you're competing with somebody who wants to beat you who wants to put you Down is your competitor gonna say something positive about you.

I didn't think so. Oh, you just do useless you can't play You like the Great tennis player who said I'm the greatest The great boxer who said I'm the greatest It's the way of the world is it I'm the greatest and you're a miserable useless nobody and you know if you hear those words, and you believe them guess what you're gonna become a miserable useless nobody too many of us still suffering the effects of these things in our lives I'll tell you what happens When you hear these words over and over again, they sink deep down into your spirit And when you're all alone Just with your thoughts some voices begin to come up from deep inside of you and You hear those voices speaking to you again and again and again, and they say You're no good. You can't do it.

You're useless God can't do somebody like you. You're just a big miserable sinner. What makes you think you can rise up and accomplish anything You know that this is a principle That is built into us because it's the way that God made us But you see the reason we hearing those bad voices Come up from inside of us is because we heard them and allowed them to sink deep down into our hearts and It's hard to fight it isn't it if people keep telling you you're ugly after a while you begin to believe it If people keep telling you you stupid after a while you begin to believe it People tell you you're inferior You believe it Eventually those words continue to speak to you, and you continue to believe them And you will remain in the background and never accomplish anything in life Now the great wise man Solomon He explained to us how it works But he showed us how to do it positively Unfortunately usually we do it negatively in Proverbs chapter 6 in verse 20.

He said my son Keep your father's commandment and forsake not the law of your mother Bind them continually upon your heart and tie them about your neck Okay, so what he's saying is listen to the positive words Okay, when he's speaking about the father and mother. I think he's speaking probably even more than just natural parents He's speaking about good spiritual effects. You know, but here's what he says As you allow these things to be bound on your heart he says when you go out It'll lead you See when you go out and you're trying to decide what to do These ideas are going to come up out of your mind And you know what's going to come up the words that you heard you can do it You can do it you can do it or don't even bother trying you're not capable of doing That's how we make our decisions imagine if all you heard were those good positive words you could do it you capable Quite possibly do it Then you can make a decision say I'm going to do it.

Well, I'm afraid I don't know if I can and I'm going to try I believe I'm going to do it You can get those positive words in there. It's going to change the decisions that you make in life He says when you sleep It'll keep you you're gonna have positive dreams not negative dreams You're gonna sleep peacefully without a care and worry in the world. Otherwise, I say it was gonna happen You're gonna toss internal life with those thoughts going through your mind all the time making you feel ill at ease You can't rest Can't relax But here's the exciting part.

He says when you wake up It'll talk to you see those voices are going to come out Whatever you put in there. It's gonna come out now if you learn to put the right thing in there Help me to make decisions. I'll help you to sleep really rest Confidence And when you get up that voice will say, okay, let's go out and do it today.

Let's go get him When's the last time you had that I have to answer Chances are the negative ones one that usually comes out. I don't feel like getting out of bed today Do I have to go to work? It's going to be another struggle Everybody's going to be against me. It's going to be tough the whole world hates me People always putting me down I'm incapable see the words you hear over and over again eventually They will sink deep down they'll start to come out and when those words come out that always produce pictures because you see Apart from the voices you hear what tends to come up and the way they come up is an image What's the images that you've been fed if In the home you've been fed an image a negative image concerning your parents If you're a woman and you've been given a negative image concerning your mother she's given you a picture of what a woman should look like you don't have a very positive image to relate to you're a guy and You have a negative image of your dad You don't have a positive image to relate to you're going to see yourself in the same way that negative image and So as we get up each day and face the world These negative pictures these negative thoughts these negative words and voices from the past Come and accuse us and judge us and condemn us Tear us down.

You don't have to carry on that way. There's a way out And that's the main thing I want to share with you today You can displace the negative, but you know what you can't shut your ears off to hear what's happening around about you but you can start by trying to get in places where you're not hearing so many negative words and Probably the best place Is to start getting around positive people What kind of people you're mixing with What toxic? Relationships do you have in your life of people that you are friends with or associated with who are always feeding the negatives in? Now when you get together with somebody are you always hearing? The weather's bad the country's bad. My boss is a pig the government sucks Everything's bad da da da da da and hang around to somebody like that Don't get caught into the trap of saying yeah, you try your things are really tough negative pictures Develop some true friendships of somebody who's actually wants they wants to help you not compete with you.

That's a true friend Yeah, I know they're not easy to find This is just your your your first recourse and probably not the best one because it's very difficult these days To find anybody who cares enough, but you know hopefully you can find a group of Christians Who truly love the Lord and love one another who can lift one another up? Hmm and then somebody said You are Sometimes what you read I know some of us are not readers some of us are great readers Like to curl up with a book at night Like to fill our minds with new stuff What kind of materials are you reading? What kind of authors are you reading? What kind of words? Are you allowing to sink down? It's not coming in your physical ears, but it's coming in your spiritual ears those words that you are reading over and over again Oh, you know I don't like anything too serious. I'll just pick up a just a cheap novel. That's just got a fun story in a Fun story hatred killing strife The three roots of the flesh, that's what you're gonna find out there.

That's what you're gonna fill your mind with and You read the story of the beautiful woman that all the guys are after and what's your impression? That's not me the good-looking guy that all the women want ah oh boy. I envy him. I wish I was him Again you see yourself as this little nobody Don't do it.

Don't do it. Oh, well. Maybe you don't like reading books.

Maybe you like watching movies. They're about the same I know in the movie likely kind of identify with the character in the movie and then the movies over and your life starts again Sorry, it doesn't work in the end again. You realize I can't be like that I would love to be like that, but I can't be like that Hearing the wrong kind of things and I'm not saying it's wrong because we live in this world And we can't avoid it, but what? percentage of your hearing time is The hearing of positive words and how much of it is hearing the negativity of? this world Is only one person that you can turn to? Who you know you can trust without a doubt? Everytime you'll never speak a negative word to you.

His name is Jesus He will always see the best in you. He'll always give you good pictures Never negative ones But you hear his voice You hear him say these things to you. Do you take the time? to spend in his presence I Am not talking about praying and coming and bringing your shopping list to the Lord.

It's not prayer I'm talking about coming just to be with him to tell him that you love him and to sit in his presence and listen and wait Till you hear him speaking to you, and if you'll take the time as you'll quieten your mind and listen You'll hear a tiny little voice Coming up from deep down inside Now here's the problem that voice is a tiny voice, and it doesn't shout I Tell you what shouting dadada are the voices of your past dadada loud and clear like an amplifier They shouting You're gonna have to ignore those for long enough to stop right in the middle of that You're gonna hear this quiet little voice that says I Love you You're special to me. I care I Think you're wonderful. I Made you and I don't make bad things.

I only make good things You are mine. I'm proud of you. I Love you.

I Want the best for you now compare that with how often we hear the other voices You see the other voices are going to come without you inviting them This voice will only come when you invite him So you've got to make the time you got to make the effort you've got to tear yourself away from that world around you and Take that quiet time in his presence to stop and talk to him and listen and If you'll do that, and if you'll hear it often enough After a while you begin to recognize that voice See you speak to somebody on the phone every day eventually the moment they pick up the phone and say hi You know who's talking we should recognize that voice if you'll take the time to listen to that still small voice Eventually, you'll come to the place. We're right in the middle of the noise right in the middle of your daily activity You've able to stop and listen You'll hear it When things are coming against you when people are coming against you when life is giving you grief Stop right there listen So now how often he speaks? 24 hours a day He's speaking you don't just sit and wait and I hope you'll speak to you to this time. He's speaking right now Speaking all the time because he lives inside him If you'll just take the time to listen You don't speak Now prophets find this easier But you don't have to be a prophet to hear the voice of the Lord You just need to be a Christian who has the spirit living inside of you in one of the easier ways I Say it's easier once you've practiced it Because you see when you stop and close your eyes and listen You've got all these voices coming at you at the same time And you know what it's like when you walk into a room and everybody's trying to talk to you at the same time Yeah, you know, I know some people who can listen to two or three voices at the same time I'm not sure if it's women who have a better ability of this than men, but I'm not very good at it.

I Hate it. I'm talking on the phone and somebody starts talking to me and says tell them this Talking I can't listen to them and you at the same time. You can only listen to one voice Okay, some people have said they're pretty good They can multitask on that but mostly we can only listen to one voice at a time We have to choose to either listen to this voice or listen to that voice And if you think about if you walk into a crowded room where everybody's talking you can't hear a thing, but you can stop and focus and say I Yes, I know that voice you can stop you can listen to that person talking and the other voices will begin to fade And we can do that in the natural we can do it in the spiritual as well We can shut those noisy voices out and listen for that quiet voice, but one of the best ways to hear with one voice only is a process called journaling a Journaling is a very simple thing it means simply taking out pen and paper or these days we have electronic devices we can type on and Stop and talk to the Lord and listen for him to talk to you and Then start writing down immediately all of the impressions that come up out of your spirit and some of the first impressions may be pictures They may just be thoughts But eventually you can get at the place where you can actually hear the Lord speaking and you can write down what he's saying You'll be amazed how powerful this is and the more you do it and develop it the better you get at it Eventually you can get to the place You're having a tough time at work.

Let's sit in the toilet with your phone Journal You'll be amazed You'll be amazed But you'll hear People can't stop you going to the bathroom You can get out of their company You can get out somewhere good and well wait to lunchtime. I don't know whatever get alone with the Lord and sitting right down the words that he's speaking to you and Then you don't have to kind of wonder what he said and think it was your imagination actually reread them afterwards You know what I would never have thought of that That has to be the Lord. He came up with something.

He gives you some advice He tells you what to do you think you know what I would never have thought that it has to be God You go out there and do what he told you Go out there and act like he told you to tell you what Suddenly a new person walks out of that bathroom and the one who walked in there. I can face you guys now I've got Jesus by my side You can do it You got to hear the right words folks You got to hear the right words. You got to shut up the negative words Journaling is a very powerful way to do it and then of course the most obvious way to hear the Word of God Which doesn't require any prophetic orientation at all Just to read his words Where do we find his words? Well, he spoke them in at least 66 books of the Bible that are available to us How much time do you take each day? to read the word You don't have to answer.

Well. You know I should read the Bible. Let me read a chapter quickly before I go to sleep Maybe one of those early risers you grab a chapter quickly When you wake up before you go to work You know these days we don't have to carry a physical Bible as you can carry it on your phone You know while you're having a tea break you could read a bit of Word While you're in the bathroom you can read a bit of Word While you're on lunch while you're standing in line waiting to be served you could read the Word So don't give me that excuse.

Well. You know I really don't have time You always have time to do what you want to do don't you? But you don't need to do it out of an obligation You need to do it because this is the only way you're going to hear the words that are going to be positive That are going to change your life, so take time to read the Word and as you read the Word Eventually a passage is going to jump out at you that really just relates to where you're at right now when you get there just stop and Reread that that little verse again read it over and over again and think about it see that's what meditation is Meditation is just taking the thought that the words and letting them run over your mind You know read that verse over ten times Try reading it out loud Speak it think it and try and change it into pictures Related to yourself. That's the process called meditation Meditation is a very powerful principle Feeding the positive in because as you meditate and let it in it begins to sink down Now this is some of that word that Solomon spoke about when he said when you go out now It's going to lead you it's going to watch over you while you sleep And when you wake up is going to start talking to you if you want to do ministry you need a lot of this Because you need God to give his word out of you while you're preaching but sometimes you just need to read the Bible just from a devotional point of view just to be encouraged and Motivated you don't want to read it to get intellectual to have a study to try and show how clever you are And we call that devotional reading Now there's one book of the Bible that is awesome for devotional reading and that's the book of Psalms If you ever have a problem in life chances David had it I'll tell you what and he poured his guts out all the time in his Psalms.

Oh Lord life is terrible Everybody hates me. They want to kill me Lord, where are you? I feel all alone You'll find a Psalm somewhere on there sooner or later that expresses the way you feel And sometimes it helps just to know somebody else feels the same way But usually usually David doesn't leave you there He shows you how he got out of it and when and when you see him get out But you think what if he did it I can do it, too So if you don't have any other time to read the scripture try and read a psalm or two a day You know try and try and pick the psalm for today You know, what is today's date take that psalm and read and then if you really want to you can actually read five Psalms every day because there's a hundred and fifty psalms and there's about thirty days in a month So you if you could actually read five different psalms every day and you read the whole psalms in a month It will encourage you read enough until you start to hear the positive words until you start to feel Good about yourself, and then if you need some wisdom in life the wise guy Solomon He wrote a book called prophets which has 31 chapters. So we got a chapter for every day of the months Don't turn to one of those.

I Know he says there are all sorts of things Tells us about nagging women and all sorts of things like that Maybe that doesn't apply to you so you can ignore that but sooner or later You'll find one little verse there that jumps out at you. Hang on to it embrace it use the wisdom in it Okay, so in conclusion folks we were all filled with negative words from our past Experiences and the the only way to displace that is to feed some good positive words in Now you might be able to get that a little bit by hanging around with positive people, but the best source is the Lord Jesus himself So take time daily to wait in his presence Try Journaling if you if you've never tried journaling you should start if you find it hard to journal Practice it every day until you get better it you'll eventually get to the place where journaling is becomes. You know what I most evenings Before I go to bed as I wait on the Lord I'll just pull out my tablet I've got a nice little program and app on that for journaling and I will just type And I'll hear from the Lord and you know It may not be super-duper what he says to me, but he always says something positive He always says you great.

I'm proud of you. Why don't you try this? Why don't you do that and it's enough that I can go to sleep in peace Wake up the next day with a new motivation to face the world And they take time to read his word because his word is 100% positive It's filled with life Now if you keep doing that your life will be Transformed I've announced recently that I produced an app which contains the full text of the Bible and it has tools in it, which make it easier for you to study and read the Bible and to do devotionals If you haven't downloaded my app I would highly recommend you go and do it It's available right now for Android devices. I'm blessed just reading some of my old journals see what the Lord spoke to me It helps you to keep going helps you to rise up and accomplish and be What he wants you to be and here and to be what you want to be Because he's not holding you back if you have great aspirations to rise up and be famous He's not gonna say but no that's not humble The preacher might tell you that's not humble this preacher won't tell you that if you want to rise up and take over my pulpit You can have it tomorrow Sometimes you can preach like me or why not? Why not? My spiritual daughter is already almost there And there's some time she thinks she thinks she's there, but she's almost there to the point where I can stand back and she can take over See now how could I be that positive? Unless I know who I am Unless I know what he has for me There's no limit to what you can accomplish for the Lord no limit Only people hold you back don't let the negative pictures hold you back say I can do this Yeah, well, you know I'm getting old. I don't care. Are you breathing? Can you still talk are you blind or can you read? Are you deaf or can you still listen? Okay, unless you can give me one of those.

There's no excuses and There's no reason in the world whatsoever Why you cannot be something magnificent is what he desires you to be See folks we we need to fill ourselves with the right kind of words
