The Gift of Faith

The first of the power gifts is faith. That may not sound like a gift at all, but it is supernatural faith that comes spontaneously in one sharp shot.

It gives the ability to know that you know without any doubt, and to be able to believe God for what seems impossible.

This provides a doorway to many other things, but most of the time it helps you more than it helps the other person. It gives you the ability to be able to speak decrees.

When you speak and release the Word of God with faith into the earth, it is very dynamic and powerful. You can speak things into existence through the gift of faith.

This is the kind of gift that some of the Patriarchs exercised when they laid hands on their children and predicted what their future was going to be. They did not merely predict the future, but they created it by decree using this gift of faith.

So this gift is not as clear and distinct in ministering to others, but you will know when you suddenly have the ability to believe for the impossible.

It is clearly not natural, because you had all the doubts in the world, but God suddenly gives you this miraculous input of faith.

The Gift of Miracles

The gift of miracles is the second power gift, which is the ability to supersede natural things.

You can break through everything that is natural. The gift of miracles can allow you to turn water into wine as Jesus did. It can take loaves and fishes and multiply them to feed thousands of people.

It is a gift which grants the release of God's power, and it is released in one quick, sharp shot. The gift of miracles may be involved beyond the gifts of healing, where for example a limb is recreated in a person.

This operates outside of the gifts of healing, which is the next gift.

The Gifts of Healing

This is always given in the plural. It is not the gift of healing, but the gifts of healings. There is more than one gift of healing, so when you hear someone claiming to have the gift of healing you will know that they are ignorant.

The gifts of healing are plural, and there are many of them. They will operate as the Holy Spirit chooses to give them. You will notice however that those who operate in a healing ministry will often have better results with certain diseases.

Most of the great evangelists of the past specialized in specific ailments. One may have specialized in cancer, another in deafness.

Often they would say that when they prayed for people with certain diseases, they would see healing most of the time.

That is how the gifts of healing operate. This gift is a supernatural power that reaches in and speeds up the natural healing processes of the body.

Our bodies were created to heal themselves, but the gifts of healing cause this process to be speeded up.

Healing is supernatural and is a spiritual power that is available. But the gifts of healing allow a supernatural release of power towards a person. It speeds up the healing process and they are healed very quickly.

The Gift of Tongues

The vocal gifts are pretty straightforward. The gift of tongues is simply the ability to speak in languages that you do not know. It is not the ability to understand a language you have never learned.

This gift does not suddenly give you the ability to speak in Chinese when you could not do it before. If I were to speak in Chinese in tongues, I would have no idea what I said. But if a Chinese person were present they would understand what I said.

It is called the gift of diverse or different tongues, which means there are many different kinds of languages spoken.

Many people, when they receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, speak in only one tongue which they seem to keep. You always hear them speaking in that same tongue.

The gift of tongues allows you to move into a greater realm of diversities of tongues. You may then use different tongues at different times.

I can usually choose from a list of tongues that I have available depending on which ones I feel like using. I can change my tongue by choice.

When you add this gift into ministry, it can be used to give an utterance in a public meeting. It is then followed up by the next vocal gift.

The Interpretation of Tongues

Interpretation is not necessarily translation. When someone speaks in tongues and an interpreter then speaks, the interpreter is not translating exactly word for word, what the person said in that tongue.

That is why you may sometimes hear someone give a short sharp word of tongues, and then the interpreter may speak for 10 minutes.

What the interpreter is doing is explaining in the normal language, the concept that the person spoke in tongues.

That is all this gift of interpretation of tongues involves.

The Gift of Prophecy

This gift is somewhat like a combination of tongues and interpretation. It is speaking God's word directly to a person. It means saying,

"This is what the Lord says to you right now."

God gives you a message to relay to a person, explaining and telling them what He says. It is usually a word of encouragement, especially when it is given in a public meeting.

When God gives you a word of prophecy in a public meeting, it is a bit like a mini sermon. God speaks a word of encouragement, and you could be ministering to many different people in the meeting at the same time.

When you prophesy over only one person at a time then it is clear you have been given something specifically for that one person.

God is giving you a specific word for that person. It will often be a word of encouragement, or it will confirm to the person something that they were thinking or praying about.

God may say something like,

"What you were thinking about doing in your heart is of me, and I will bless you and use you and fulfill it. You have been doing the right thing."

Prophecy is simply God giving a word of encouragement.

All of these things are 100% supernatural. You cannot make up speaking in tongues, and you cannot try to interpret because you think you understood some of the language.

When you give a prophetic word, you do not think to yourself,

"I can see that this person is out of order, and if I were the Lord I would really rebuke them."

If you stand up and begin to rebuke that person in the name of the Lord, it is not a prophetic word. Many prophets get this all wrong and need to be taught how to use the gifts correctly.

Natural and Supernatural

There are nine supernatural gifts, and if you are flowing in anything that is supernatural in your ministry, then you will be operating in one or more of these nine gifts.

Anything that falls outside of these is not the gifts of the Spirit. Any other kind of revelation or influence that you might think is a gift from God is in fact from the enemy.

Be very careful; the gifts are supernatural, and they are all very distinct.

I hope that you now understand the difference between the natural and the supernatural. In the final section of this study we will look quickly at how to deal with demonic influences and keep your heart clear.

Then finally I will show you the most powerful way of getting in to receiving these gifts.

In future series we will teach you to learn how to use these gifts and then to add them to your ministry. But in this final section of this series I will show you how to get these gifts.
