What does it mean when a person says, "We'll just have to go by faith?" 

Usually when you hear that expression what you are thinking is, "This guy's in a corner. He has a problem. He has no way out of his situation. He can't see his way clearly, so he's just going to have to 'faith' it." 

Faith is considered a last resort. You have tried everything else and nothing has worked. So you will just have to go by faith now. 

What is faith? Is it flying blind? Is that when you hold your finger up in the air to sense the direction of the wind?

Then you say, "Where do we go now? We'll have to just go by faith and trust the Lord now." 

Most of the time when people speak about doing things by faith that is the idea that they have isn't it? We have the idea that faith means rejecting all common sense and just doing something irrational. 

What is this faith? Is it something that God gives only to select individuals? Or is faith perhaps a sixth sense that we are able to develop and use? These are some of the issues that I want to try and address here.

Creative Spiritual Forces

I want to tell you now about the forces that dwell in the human spirit.

I want to share specifically about the recreated spirit in Christ, or the human spirit that is indwelt with God's Holy Spirit from the moment of the new birth. 

There are spiritual forces there. There is spiritual energy and power. 

We saw earlier that God has given to man the ability to use the power that is in his spirit to create, just as He created using the power of his Spirit.

This happens as the Spirit comes to bear on the physical creation and causes a change to take place in it. 

If it is true that spirit has the power to change the physical then there must be some kind of force, energy or power that is in the spirit that enables it to bring about those changes. That is what I want to look at here. 

Where do these spiritual forces come from? How do they function?

What are they? And how do we go about actually using them to bring about that creation? How do we go about releasing them against the physical creation to cause the changes to take place? 

God has made us to be a spirit dwelling in a body, and therefore having a soul that mediates between spirit and body.

By our spirits we are in touch with God's Spirit and His realm, and by our bodies we are in touch with this physical realm.

Somehow we need to cause the forces that are in our spirit to flow out into the physical. You will see that each of these parts of our being has functions that are built into them. They are created to function in certain ways. 

Three Functions of the Spirit

I am not going to go into it in a lot of detail here but I am just going to mention briefly the three functions of the spirit so that you can understand where these forces of the human spirit come from.

Intuition

God has made the human spirit to have three main functions. The first one I would like to call 'spiritual knowledge' or 'spiritual knowing.' A word that is often used to describe this is 'intuition'. 

Supposedly women have more of this because people are always speaking about, 'women's intuition'.

In a sense that is true, because women often tend to develop more of that creative spiritual capacity. Intuition is the ability to know deep within your spirit. 

Spiritual Communication

The second function is something that I would like to call 'spiritual communication' or communion (fellowship). It is the ability of a person's spirit to communicate with and to have communion with another spirit. 

Two spirits can touch each other and communicate, not like we communicate in the flesh, but a touching of spirits takes place. We will look at that more much later. 

Wisdom

The third function in the human spirit I would like to call 'spiritual wisdom.'

Wisdom tends to have an orientation towards the future. It is usually involved in decision-making. It is the ability to anticipate what is going to happen, make decisions, and make changes to move in a specific direction, based on that inner knowing. 

Sometimes people use the word premonition as related to this. It can have a sense of foreknowledge. 

As these three functions of the human spirit are activated and begin to function, each one gives rise to a specific type of spiritual force.

It might sound like I have been talking about things that are a bit spooky. Maybe you think I am starting to talk occult here. 

You may say, "That sounds like New Age to me, brother." 

Well, God has made the human spirit in the same image as His Holy Spirit, and spirit has these functions. 

You may have seen some of these things in the New Age movement or in the occult. This is because Satan has simply taken what God has already built into man, has tapped into that power and is using it to his own ends. 

That is why Satan had to gain control of Adam, because he wanted that power.

That power was in Adam from the beginning. It did not come from the Devil. All Satan does is tap into that power, which is the latent power of the spirit. 

The Latent Power of the Spirit

A book was written many years ago by Watchman Nee entitled, 'The Latent Power of the Soul'. In this book he described some of these built-in functions which he attributed to the soul. 

They are actually the latent power of the spirit, rather than the soul, and Satan wants to use that power. God also wants to use that power, but because people out there are letting the Devil use it, the Christians are too afraid to touch it. 

We are 'throwing the baby out with the bath water'. There are people who are afraid to get into the gifts of the Spirit.

They are afraid to get into the miraculous. They are too afraid to get into speaking in tongues and gifts of revelation, "Because the Devil can counterfeit it."

Of course the Devil can counterfeit it. But what does a person counterfeit?

He does not create it. He copies it. He counterfeits the real thing. If there is a counterfeit there must be a real one, right? 

So let's not throw away the real one because there is a counterfeit out there. Let's get into what God has put into man.

Let's use what God has designed us to have, and what He by the power of His Spirit, wants to highly amplify in us, in order that we as His children may rule and reign in Jesus Christ in this earth.

Reigning in Christ

The Scripture says: Those who receive the abundance of grace will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

We are meant to be reigning in this earth as kings, but we are groveling. We are groveling under the powers of darkness.

We are groveling under the forces of this world, because we are allowing ourselves to be dominated by this world, and by those people that the Devil is using in this world. 

We are allowing ourselves to grovel and saying, "I wish God would do something." 

God wants to do something but you will not let Him. He is going to do it through you, by the same power and the same facilities that Satan is using, except He has more power. 

He has greater ability and a greater capacity. And if you will let Him use the power in your spirit, it will be far greater than what Satan could ever do.

Your spirit came from God in the first place. And when the Holy Spirit enters your spirit, it will function naturally the way it was designed to operate.
