What is your core desire in life?

Ever heard this term?

I use it often

And usually when I ask people what their core desire is I get a blank response

We all have desires, but find it hard to identify a core desire

and then the question is usually asked, well how do I get a core desire?

Or, how can I convert an ordinary desire into a core desire

So tonight I am going to answer this question

I actually answered it long ago, right here on our WhatsApp chat

but few remember what we cover here

It is not easy to go back over the chatlog and review what we learned

And is also a ton of work for me to extract what I taught from past chats

But today the Lord gave me wisdom on how to do this in minutes instead of hours

so I am going to be putting out now very quickly our past chats as chapters in a free book on Gbm Books

Because sometimes the Lord gives me revelation during these chats and I share stuff that is not taught elsewhere

What I am going to share with you tonight was already covered in a previous chat some time ago

and it is published already in one of our books

So I am going to repeat tonight most of what I taught there

and perhaps the Lord may add something new

ok?

So here we go then

If only you could change your desires, you could change your life.

the soul contains mind, emotions, and will,

the will, which we use to make choices and decisions is the weakest of the three

If I want to control you, the only way I can do this is to somehow control your emotions.

But this is not done very easily

even you are not able to control your emotions.

Try stopping your feelings and desires sometime by an act of your will.

It is an impossible task.

You cannot change your feelings by choice.

But you can change it by using your mind.

what is in your mind is the only thing that will affect your emotions.

And once your emotions are stirred in the right direction,

then it is easy to do what your emotions are telling you to do.

I learned many years ago when I went into the field of selling

that there is only one way you can get someone to do something.

You must somehow get them to WANT to do it.

Let’s look quickly at how a desire arises in our hearts.

If you can figure that out, then perhaps you can control which desires arise

Most of the desires that rise up in us come from the world around us.

They are stirred up by the things that we see and hear and sense with all of our five senses.

So they come at first via the body, and they then enter the mind.

what enters your mind forms a picture or influence in your mind that affects your emotions.

What you see in your mind will often cause a desire to arise in your heart.

If you want someone to change as a result of your ministry, then you must paint the right pictures in their mind.

A negative picture can never lead to positive action.

That is why telling people all the time where they failed will never motivate them to positive action.

It only produces negative emotions and a sense of failure and hopelessness.

But if you paint a picture of what the Lord can and wants to do in them, then you paint positive pictures.

If what you speak or preach is also anointed by the Holy Spirit, then the pictures will always be positive.

We always think of conviction as bringing a person to a place where they recognize and admit their sins.

But actually, what you need to convince them of, is that Jesus paid for their sins

and offers them something far better than the life they have lived.

the Holy Spirit will always have a positive effect on a person’s emotions.

Learning To Control Our Emotions

One of the fruits of the Spirit is temperance or self-control

this is an ability to master and control the passions and desires of the soul.

Although most of the desires that arise in us come via our body, from the world around us,

some can also come from inside us.

There are some that arise as a result of the memories that have been stored in the soul.

Included in these are things such as templates and triggers

which come as a result of the things we experience.

When you have a good experience, there is a desire to repeat this and get the same feelings again

That is why we tend to do things that bring back good memories

Remember that wonderful holiday time you had?

You will probably go back to the same place again to see if you can repeat it

Some come from the circumstances we grew up in, and the cultural influences we were subjected to.

I call these archetypes

and they tend to run in families, cultures, nations, and any group of people.

Just as desires are brought to our emotions from influences via the body and soul, they can also come from our spirit.

Our spirits lie at the centre of our being,

and this is where the Fruit of the Spirit originates.

Identifying Your Current Desires

Many years ago the Lord placed His call on my life

and a desire began to rise in me that grew over the years.

It grew stronger, and eventually it became a consuming passion that remained with me all through the years.

But it went through many phases and stages of preparation along the way.

some of my first desires began to change over time as new desires arose.

Each of these desires had a time period in my life

and were part of the Lord’s preparation and training for my life calling.

Sometimes I was pushed into doing things that I really did not want to do.

And I would often fight it and kick against it, sometimes

thinking it was the enemy trying to sidetrack me.

But then I would bring it to the Lord

especially as I learned to hear His voice more clearly.

And when He told me that He wanted me to go that route there was no more argument.

I would obey Him and do what He said.

And when I did, I found myself wanting to do it, instead of resisting it.

In fact, it would often lead to a new desire rising in me that was not there before.

After successfully setting up several training schools and producing many teachings on training ministries

my desire for this was very strong.

I could see myself doing nothing else for the rest of my life.

Then the Lord would suddenly change my direction and lead me into a sideline that made no sense.

recently the Lord led me again in an unexpected direction.

One of my greatest weaknesses in life was getting into the arts.

I could do some things, like playing music and writing,

but real art - things like drawing and painting were way beyond my reach.

And I was afraid to even try because I had tried and failed so many times in the past

that I really had no desire to do this.

Now the Lord had shown me, and I had taught,

that you can do anything if you tap what is in your spirit.

So He challenged me to practice what I preached.

when I knew that HE wanted me to do this, it changed everything.

The first thing He told me to do was develop my singing voice

and start making professional recordings of some of my songs.

I had tried this in the past, and even uploaded some of my songs

and thought I was not doing too badly.

Until someone wrote me and told me that I should keep singing for the Lord

because He probably liked my singing,

but I should spare the rest of the world and not make them suffer.

I had given up hope of ever singing good enough to make good recordings and releasing them to the public.

But now He was telling me to return to it

and He would help me develop my singing and make it a blessing.

So for several months I dropped everything that I was doing

and began to make song recordings, and write new songs.

And now I think I can help others

who have always desired to play and sing for the Lord but felt they were not capable.

But then the Lord began to lead me into other new things.

And the next thing He told me was to develop the one skill I knew that I did not have.

The real arts - drawing and painting.

Yes and this is why they need to be taught how to release the anointing through singing

So once again, I dropped everything that I was doing

and began to study how I could finally learn to do this, with His help.

I cannot say that I now know how to draw well,

but I did learn how to reproduce photos in both pencil shading, color pencil shading, and acrylic painting.

You see I had no real desire for art

but when the Lord told me to go that route, He put a passion in my heart

so that it is all I wanted to do each day for a few months.

But then I had to face the prospect that I do still have a greater calling

and I cannot become a professional artist for the rest of my days.

So the Lord told me to let go of the arts and return to ministry

I was just beginning to have fun with it

But once again I obeyed His voice

The Lord has thus led me through several phases of experience

Where he took a mediocre or even non existing desire

And magnified it into a core desire

So now we return to the core desire

Definition of a Core Desire

there are desires, and there are desires.

And some desires are stronger than others.

So I want to speak now, finally, about the most important desire of all.

In the past, I have referred to it as a Core Desire

and I have given some teaching on this in various places.

But what was always a problem, and something that I could not help folks with was this question:

How can I convert my normal desire into a core desire?

I had never been able to fully answer that question,

but now I finally have an answer for you.

But before I get to that, let’s stop first and examine your desires.

I would like you to think of at least two desires that you have right now in your heart.

First, identify them, and then I am going to ask you a few questions about them.

Do you have any hobbies or things you like to do?

I am looking for more than just things that you want, but things that you want to do.

The next question is which of your desires are you following mostly right now and enjoying doing?

What are you doing, or have done, to fulfill these desires?

If you are not already carrying out some of your desires then what do you do after you wake up in the morning?

What is your main activity each day

something that you enjoy doing, not the things you have to do.

What do you do when you get home from work and chill out?

What would you do if you did not have to go to work?

Don’t tell me what you desire to do, but are not doing

Rather think about the things you desire and that you are doing.

You see we all follow our feelings.

So what do you feel like doing when there are no obligations?

Be honest, and please do not try to be super-spiritual.

If you are not doing anything that you desire, what is your reason for this?

If you have no strong desire that is motivating you right now

then you are not living, you are just existing.

If you are doing what others require of you, then your desire is to please others

that is why you are doing this.

there is only one way to accomplish anything in this life.

You must have a strong desire that drives you

and you must follow that desire and let it dominate your activities.

The reason so many fail to accomplish anything in life is that they really do not know what they want.

If you consider the desires that you came up with when I asked you to identify them, then my next question to you is this

Why are you not doing this already?

I can answer that question for you easily.

Your desire for this is simply not strong enough.

It is being overwhelmed by your other lesser desires

and the desires of others who are dominating you.

What you are showing basically is that you do not have what I call a core desire.

Without a core desire, you will accomplish nothing in this life.

And by the time you finally wake up and decide to get going with it, your life might be over already.

You are also telling me that you really do not have the Fruit of the Spirit known as Self-Control operating in you.

we all have many desires, but there can only be one core desire operating at a time

That desire controls you and drives you to follow through until you reach your goal.

It causes you to leave no stone unturned to find a way to fulfill it.

You will pay any price and give up all that you have for it.

And it is strongly linked with the call of God on your life.

Where do desires come from?

They come from the emotional part of our soul.

They are affected by the world around us and the desires of our bodies.

They are also affected by our past experiences and our templates and triggers

But until one desire becomes a core desire, you will seldom accomplish your desires in life.

So the million dollar question, which I now have an answer to is this:

How do I convert a normal desire into a core desire?

The answer is that this desire must include influences from your body, your soul, and your spirit.

The most important and strongest influence should always come from your spirit.

How does this come?

It comes via the Fruit of Self-Control.

It actually involves all of the fruit, because each of them affects our emotions in some way.

Love is a strong emotional influence.

So are joy, peace, long-suffering, goodness, assurance, kindness, and meekness.

In other words, most of our success in life comes only

when we allow the Holy Spirit to control our emotions via the Fruit of the Spirit.

So maybe you are still asking questions like,

“What is my place in life and in ministry?

What should I be doing for the Lord?

If you do not know then it is clear that none of your existing desires have been influenced strongly enough by the Holy Spirit to become a core desire.

We all want the power of the gifts and to rise up to perform miracles.

But when it comes to paying the price of submitting fully to the Holy Spirit

and letting Jesus live His life in us, it is a different story.

But this is the key to succeeding in everything that you do.

What About Habits?

We have formed bad habits in our lives, by following only the things we feel like doing right now.

These eventually lead to complacency and accomplishing nothing more than just living another day.

Some try to change their habits and form good ones, but it is not easy to do

It takes strong willpower to do this, and we know that our will is not really that strong.

It is far easier to let our desires rule and drive us.

But first, make sure that your desires are motivated and controlled by the Spirit within.

Then you will indeed have full control of yourself,

and you will accomplish everything that you set your heart to do.

Let’s end with a practical project

If you are still struggling to turn one of your personal desires into a core desire, then you now have a way to do it.

Write down your desire and ask yourself the following questions.

1. Where did this desire come from? When did it first appear?

2. Has this desire continued over time or has it already begun to fade?

3. Ask the Lord if this desire is part of His calling for your life.

4. Then see where the strongest influences are coming from to motivate and activate this desire.

a. Did it come from something you saw or heard?

If so, then it came from this world via your body.

b. Does it come from your past memories or experiences, and pictures came up from deep inside to produce this desired?

If it did, then it came from your own inner heart or subconscious mind via your soul.

c. Does it come from somewhere deeper, where you sensed the Lord speaking to you and inspiring you to move in this direction?

If it did, then it came from your spirit as a revelation, under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

When all of these influences combine together into one strong influence, you will find that your desire will become highly magnified.

It will become what I have called a Core Desire.

So try to see if you can get your desire to fit all of these areas.

Open your eyes and look around you to see others who are doing something like this.

Examine your own heart, and if there is doubt or fear as a result of past experiences, then deal with that blockage

so that the feelings of your heart are in total agreement with this desire.

The more you get all of these influences to combine, the stronger the desire will become

and the more likely you will be to continue until you fulfil that desire.

The Fruit of Self Control will keep you on track, to make sure that you do not give up before reaching your goal.

Try practicing some of these things this week

And ask the Lord to give you a clear revelation of what He has called you to do in this life

What is your destiny in life?

When you know that the Lord is behind this then nothing should hold you back

You want to please Him and you know it will lead to good things

Sometimes you may think that your desire is not very spiritual

Heck at one time I felt inspired to look into dressmaking

I even got a mannekin to practice on

`Now the Lord had not caleld me to become a clothing designer

But I learned some principles

Give yourself also a chance to make mistakes

Most of us fail our way to success

But the key is to keep walking down the road of life

With a clear picture in your mind of where you want to go

The Lord can teach you how to do this

It is one area I have not got into yet, but maybe I might still

I even studied how to write movie scripts

But although we can learn from some of their methods

We need the wisdom of the Lord to be the best

And it costs less too

What I do when a strong desire rises in me is to always follow the same pattern

I start by looking for all materials that can teach me something

Buy lots of books and browse the internet to see what is out there

Then with the Lord’s help I try to put them into practice

and I ask Him for wisdom on how to improve on what others teach

The Holy Spirit is the best teacher in the world

Once I have learned some things from others, I then reteach it with my own spiritual revelation

and it comes out better

I seldom quote others in my teachings

though I may have learned a lot from them

I seldom reteach what they taught originally

The key to success is originality

and your spirit has creative power in it

that enables you to come up with something unique and original

But of course the bottom line must always be, what does the Lord think of this?

I can do anything I desire, but does it fit into His plan for my life

Without the spiritual input you will not develop a true core desire and you will fail

If you are only driven by past templates you will fail

Because they are controlling you in a negative way

There must be full agreement in your spirit, soul and body

Then the desire gets really strong and there arises in you a driving force to keep pushing until you succeed

Remember you can have many different core desires in life

But you can only do one at at ime

I shared some of my own experiences in this with you to illustrate this

When a core arises you are not easily moved away from it

I was so enjoying the arts that the Lord had to virtually command me to let it go and move back to ministry

I had lots my passion for ministry and especially for training the fivefold

It was like restarting a fire on dead ashes

One of the expressions I sometimes use when people praise us or thank us for what we do is as follows

I reply simply, “It is what we do”

We do what we have become

A dog barks because it is a dog

Paul said he cannot help but preach the gospel

See now that is a core desire - a driving force

Go find your core desire or ask the Lord which desire you should convert to a core

Maybe He might even bring a new desire you did not have

But when He is in control, it will always succeed
